The only things that follow the original are the title and the setting of a German Shepherd-type robot. Including the fact that Leap was originally an ordinary pet dog, this is a completely new work, neither a sequel nor a remake.
Leap's owner is Ichigo Miyoshino, a fifth-grader. Her father, Dr. Miyoshino, is a world-renowned scientist, and is being pursued by the Silent Revenger Society, an organization that claims to be an environmental protection group, which wants to get its hands on the groundbreaking technology that Dr. Miyoshino invented. In the future world he came from, Dr. Miyoshino's inventions were used in war, and humanity has become what it is today. He has come to this world to bury Dr. Miyoshino's inventions, change the future, and take revenge on the humanity of the past. ...Just as the grand plot, which was revealed to be based on the "revenge of the time travelers" from the original "Super Dog Leap," was announced, the magazine in which it was published effectively ceased publication, bringing the story to a close just as things were getting interesting.
